Some people believe in error that in order to be hypnotized, you must have a weak will. Several studies have shown that the ability to go into hypnosis is completely unrelated to that characteristic. Hypnotizability has nothing to do with a person being gullible, submissive, unimaginative or being weak willed.
In fact, the stronger your will, and the better ability to concentrate, you will more quickly and easily fall into a trance state.
There is a belief that in order to be hypnotized you have to put forth effort. Studies have shown this is also incorrect. Most people under hypnosis say, “It just happened.”
In fact, often times, if one is having trouble experiencing hypnosis, it is because they are trying too hard. It’s when they relax and try less, hypnosis happens!
